Iphone Shots: Field Barn, Yorkshire Dales.

Came across this field barn whilst walking from Linton to Grassington in North Yorkshire.

It was such a delight to photograph – the route I took circumnavigated the barn and so I was able to capture all of its elevations.

There are so many ways to represent a building with photography: elevational, detail, texture, pattern, material, process or context.

In some of the photos I’ve used the dry stone walls to elevate the barn in the composition. The were lit beautifully by the raking light.

Looking north east towards the River Wharfe which cuts through the hillside.
Looking west. Here I've kept the line of the landscape in the lower third.

The classic three quarter shot - best depicts the function of a building
The nested and ordered complexity of textures really appeals to me.
Shadows add depth to an image and also an element of the lyrical.
By moving around you can use the landscape to your advantage.
I like the way the walls seem to 'offer up' the barn in this composition .
Context is everything. There's always a narrative in the landscape.
A 'Belfie'.
